We have an excellent opportunity for an Grassroots Advocacy Intern in our Federal Advocacy office in Washington, DC.
The Grassroots Advocacy Intern will work on special projects related to the American Heart Association's You're the Cure grassroots program to gain a greater understanding of the functions of the Advocacy department. He/She would expand their knowledge of federal and state grassroots advocacy goals and objectives to help advance public policy issues relevant to the association's mission.
Major Responsibilities Include:
- Monitoring the blogosphere for heart disease and stroke advocacy conversation to help foster relationships with bloggers.
- Assist with posting and monitoring conversation on the YTC Facebook page.
- Oversees tracking of social media outreach and interaction to help evaluate results.
- Monitor digital media trends and offer suggestions for utilizing new tools to foster volunteer recruitment and engagement.
- Assist with writing projects, including content for e-newsletter publications.
- Providing volunteer and event management support for ongoing DC based advocacy events.
- Database assessment on federal legislative targets, training will be provided.
- Assistance with data entry as needed.
- Accessing reports in the online advocacy tool.
- Assistance with internet and intranet page updates.
- Interest in government relations, community organizing, and health advocacy
- Good written and oral communications skills
- Literate in top social media tools and active user (personal or professional)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Quick learner and self starter
